I know there are free tools on the web for doing website development, and I am archaic and still using Notepad. What are your recommendations? I looked at Dreamweaver but man that is expensive.

if you want the best free one that i highly recommend is
Microsoft Visual Web Developer Express
it comes with a bunch of other programs, collectively known as Visual Studio.
they are really good because they’re free but still let you build applications and Websites at a professional level.
try free open source cms called Zimplit. It has on-site editor and you can use any template you like. You must just upload Zimplit´s files to your server. There are demo and manuals available too.
