I’ve tried a few, but they try to be funny more than teach you. I want one that has a main objective of learning the way to do it.

If you’re really serious about getting into JavaScript, I would suggest that you purchase "The Bible".
JavaScript – The Definitive Guide by David Flanagan (I think it’s in it’s 3rd or 4th Edition)
I like the W3 Schools tutorials. You might try that one.
